I’m sure you guys have realized by now that I go to a lot of zoos. I mean everywhere we vacation to if there is a zoo we are probably going to it. Well, this one has quickly become one of my favorites! It is not as big as some of the zoos we have visited, but it is packed full of pleasant surprises. One of which is the price of admission and to enjoy the other activities, it is a lot less expensive than some of the zoos we have been to. Although Louisiana is typically hot, this zoo offers plenty of shaded areas and seating along the paths for relief from the heat. And if you are not feeling up to the walk, out or back or both ways, you can always catch a ride on the train. Since my first trip to the Alexandria Zoo, I have been many times since it is only about an hour from my home away from home, aka my daughter’s house. And each time I have found something new to enjoy.
The book I took on this journey, Rule Breaker by Lora Leigh, is very similar. This book is part of the Breed series and one of my absolute favorites since we have followed Rule as a supporting character from almost the very beginning of the series. I have read it several times, in fact as I write this, I am currently in the middle of a re-read, and each time I find facts that I overlooked during a previous read. Rule is one of those characters that gets under your skin, from his constant claims that he will never take a mate, to his very real fears that she will come to harm. Fortunately for him, fate has a sense of humor, and a few agents on earth to work her magic, and maneuvers him into position to connect with the perfect lady to steal his heart. And he won’t even realize it until it is too late, although his inner kitty will. This story is fast paced with moments of utter clarity that warm the heart and others with such pain that will leave you gasping in shock. The perfect read on a hot sultry southern day.

Rule Breaker (Breed Book 29)
Author Lora Leigh
Published to Amazon on February 4, 2014

There’s a fine line between animal instinct and human desire—and in her “highly erotic saga” (Fresh Fiction), #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh crosses it.
Now, in her new novel of the Breeds, the mating heat continues…
Lion Breed and enforcer Rule Breaker has just a few rules he doesn’t break. Not for anything. Not for anyone—like never have sex with a woman outside his own breed, especially a human woman. Especially someone too helpless, too fun loving and too full of life to ever be able to protect herself, let alone help him to protect her.
If the damned animal inside him insists on a mate, then why pick her? A woman who is an easy target and who can be used as a weapon against him at any time.
But what he suspects is mating heat may not be that at all. Just his animal instincts rioting, pacing, irritated whenever he's away from her.
Okay, he can handle that.
What ensues is a fiery affair that breaks all the rules of mating heat and will eventually endanger his mate with the very rules designed to protect the Breeds—for she’s possibly been working against them…

Official published review:
Some Rules are meant to be broken
I absolutely love the Breeds! Reading their stories reminds me of the dragons of Pern and their fight for survival and love while becoming more than they were meant to be. The author gave her imagination free rein and took her characters to a place I frequently return to visit. All Breeds run from their matings, be it fear of losing their freedom or fear that they now have something to lose, but Rule has taken it to the extreme with his frequent proclamations that he will never take a mate. I enjoyed watching the beast within outsmart the man, and the peace he finds in the end. And Gypsy is a complex woman who had so much to overcome but found herself along the way. Together with the staunch support and machinations that occur behind the scenes, they find a love that continues to draw me in even after the last page is turned. This author has captivated me with her Breeds for many years and through many stories, and I can’t wait to see which one will fall next.

A GR BB

Lora Leigh dreams in bright, vivid images of the characters’ intent on taking over her writing life, and fights a constant battle to put them on the hard drive of her computer before they can disappear as fast as they appeared.
Lora’s family and her writing life coexist, if not in harmony, in relative peace with each other. Surrounded by a menagerie of pets, friends, and a son who keeps her quick wit engaged, Lora finds her life filled with joys, aided by her fans whose hearts remind her daily why she writes.
